Ex-Cowslingers Announce New Band

The Whiskey Daredevils have announced they are ready to leave the relative comfort of Leo’s basement and bring their “American rock n roll without a net” to a grimy rock club stage near you. Members of this new musical fiasco include Greg, Ken, and Leo from The Cowslingers with Bobby Lanphier (Crooked Mile) and Dave Bowling (Hayshaker Jones) supplying the guitars. The Whiskey Daredevils no frills American rock n roll will feature all new original material and a few choice obscure cover songs. Elements of garage rock, roots rock, and dead end Americana dominate the sound.

“This is a totally new thing. We’ve written all new songs, and learned all kinds of cover tunes that have been twisted around to suit our purposes. This is 100% all new stuff. I hope Cowslinger fans will check out the band, but not be disappointed that we don’t play West Virginia Dog Track Boogie or any other of the old songs. We’ve got a whole stack of new hits to lay on ya!”, said Greg Miller while reaching for a barely below room temperature longneck on Leo’s washing machine.

The Whiskey Daredevils debut will come Friday September 24th at The Beachland with Lords of the Highway. The band has also confirmed they will open for the Red Elvises Sunday October 10th at the Lime Spider in Akron. Several out of town dates are also pending.

Want to stay in the loop? You can reach the boys via email at whiskeydaredevils@hotmail.com and coming soon will be your one-stop clearinghouse for all the info at http://www.whiskeydaredevils.com

Well folks, you are not going to want to miss the next two shows...Bobby has decided he doesn't want to stay in the band any longer as he has grown tired of the touring necessary to be the #1 cowpunkabilly rock machines you know and love.  Rather than continue without him (as a guitar-less jazz trio for instance), we have decided to end the Cowslingers.  We'll be playing two final shows.  One is this Friday night at our old stomping grounds in Erie at the Beer Mug.  We'll be playing all night with all the hits, so  you'll be getting good and liquored up!  Railbenders all around!  The band's final show will be March 13th at the Grog Shop.  Plan on being there now.  It will be like the Band's "Last Waltz" (without Bob Dylan and a movie crew).

After breaking up, we will do the only logical thing...go into the studio and record "Coda", a new CD!  We have quite a few new "hits" written, and we want to go bang them out for posterity.  The only question is if we will be able to effectively record "Leo's Montreaux"...

If you have any requests for these shows, make sure and drop us a line on the band e mail.

Thanks everybody.  Adios!

Goin' Out Guns A'Blazin'
The Cowslingers are headin' for their last roundup. But not before they play in Erie one more time.

Thanks to everyone that stuck it out until the wee hours of the morning at that fiasco of a gig at Skully's in Columbus last Friday.  It was great to see so many familiar faces, many of who had traveled the frozen tundra of central Ohio to be there.

This Friday catch the Cowslingers at the Lime Spider in Akron.  If you haven't been there yet, it's a great club in the middle of downtown Rubber City run by an old pal of the band.  Get there early to bask in the glory of the best jukebox in town and one of the best beer selections anywhere!

Haven't voted for us in the Free Times Music Awards yet?  C'mon and help us out!  This could be our fourth category (garage) and yet another plaque that could be stored in our closets.  Vote today!!

It looks like the national press is beginning to realize what major rock stars we are.  Check out the review of "Cowslinger Deluxe" in Stuff Magazine.

There's even a link to buy the CD if you haven't purchased you very own copy yet.  (And don't burn it from some deadbeat friend of yours either, you goddamn pirate!)

Everyone's favorite news source The Onion recently interviewed Greg regarding "Cowslinger Deluxe" in true Onion fashion.  Check it out!

Also, The Cowslingers have announced a last minute gig at Skully's in Columbus Friday February 6th.  Those of you out in those parts won't want to miss it!

Cowslinger News 1/12/04 Thanks to everyone that made our weekend such a blast. First stop was a long overdue visit to Baltimore and the sub arctic weather waiting for us. The folks at Club Mojo run a great room and made us feel totally welcome. Sorry about taking so long in getting back to Baltimore! Hopefully we'll be back real soon - Rodney from Dangerously Delicious Pies (and Glenmont Popes of course!) came out with plenty of pie for all the drunks. Send another one of those apple crumb ASAP! Get in touch to get one now at http://www.dangerouspies.com/ Scott from the Hate Bombs took time out from "Final Countdown", his Europe tribute band, to hang out as well. There was a lot of big talk about a Hate Bomb/Cowslinger run up the east coast this summer. Hopefully that wasnÕt the beer talking, and we can get that together. Leo is more than ready to strip down to nothing but a Hate Bomb sticker and "Do The Gorilla" on stage once again.

Elvisfest 2004 in Chapel Hill was a great time. Dave Quick (of Jack Black fame) puts on a great party. I was especially impressed with the Octane Saints, and Psychocharger (with special guest Gerard Dominic from Cleveland on bass in a loincloth!). From the look of the video, his Heavy Rebel Weekender is even better. Get that on your calendar now for a summer roadie! We got to check out Kudzu Ranch Studio where Dexter Romweber was at work with Rick Miller (of Southern Culture on the Skids) on his next full length. It looks probable that we will be laying down tracks there for yet another Cowslinger full-length masterpiece this summer. By the way, the new Southern Culture full length "Mojo Box" will be out in a couple of weeks. Rumor has it, this one is yet another big winner from SCOTS.

If you haven't picked up Cowslinger Deluxe you must be on crack. Mend your ways and get it immediately at www.shakeitrecords.com Keep yourself warm and the beers cold. We're on the way.

Thanks to everyone that came out to the Beachland last Saturday for an awesome party. It was truly a Night of a Thousand Stars with friends from cities far and near. The Lords got the party started early, and we kept it going late despite almost killing a completely innocent midget woman with a rain of beer bottles when Greg jumped on the speaker stack. Rumor has it she emerged damp, but otherwise OK. Even Billy Zane and the production crew of a movie being shot here in town joined in the festivities. If you missed this one, you'll be kicking yourself in the ass.

In other Cowslinger news, the band is finalizing agreements with Lone Star Records in Germany for an exclusive new ten inch vinyl project. Remember, liquor is quicker but vinyl is final!

Look for new Cowslinger original "Cheap Red Wine" on a Pabst Blue Ribbon new music sampler distributed anywhere PBR is proudly served. There's some cool tunes from Cleveland and Kansas City bands on this absolutely free disc. Ask for your free copy at any of the gigs!

Read the terrifying but true "Gigs From Hell" story submitted by Greg for this upcoming book of indie rock bands horrible tales of travel. If there's one way to bond with other bands on the road, it's to ask about the worst gig they ever had. This one is hard to top...
